The group was coordinated by the professor from Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and scientific director of the Biomédica en Red Research Centre (CIBER) for Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (BBN), Ramón Martínez Máñez, and breast cancer research oncologist, coordinator of the Breast Cancer Research Group at the Incliva Health Research Institute, Valencia Clinical Hospital, Ana Lluch, also a member of the Biomédica en Red Research Centre for Cancer (Ciberonc).
According to the latest data collected by the European Cancer Information System (ECIS), in 2020 a total of 34,088 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in Spain, making this the most common type of tumour among women in our country.
